Police Urge Motorists to Plan Ahead
For Back-To-School
Fairfax County Public Schools resume classes on Tuesday, September 8 and police are asking motorists to consider adding extra time into their schedules to better cope with the additional inevitable traffic delays.
Officers will hold additional traffic enforcement projects, targeting speeders, reckless driving behaviors and unsafe neighborhood cut-through traffic. Motorists will see additional officers in school zones, as well as near school buses, to help ensure safe loading and unloading of students. Electronic Wink-o-Matic signs will be posted at various school zones to remind motorists of reduced speed limits during school opening and closing times.
Motorists also need to pay special attention to increased numbers of pedestrians on streets and sidewalks, as parents often accompany children to school in the early morning hours. So far, in 2009, ten pedestrians have been struck and killed in Fairfax County.
