Pedestrian Dies Following
Mount Vernon-Area Crash
Mount Vernon Police District - A 44-year-old man died of injuries he sustained while crossing Richmond Highway at the intersection of Backlick Road on Monday, October 5. James Griffith, of no fixed address, was crossing from east to west, against the green traffic signal and outside of the marked crosswalk around 9 p.m. when he was struck by a 1996 Toyota Corolla.
Griffith was transported to Inova Mount Vernon Hospital where he was pronounced dead. No charges have been placed against the driver of the Toyota. Crash Reconstruction detectives continue to investigate. This the 11th fatal crash involving pedestrians so far this year in Fairfax County. Last year at this time, there were two.
