Crime Solvers Seeks Identity of Car Thief
Fairfax County Crime Solvers is asking for the public's assistance in identifying the man responsible for stealing a car from a gas station. Just before 10 p.m. on Monday, October 5, the 27-year-old owner of a 1998 Chevrolet Camaro pulled into the Exxon gas station at 8021 Leesburg Pike. He left his vehicle unattended at a gas pump with the keys in the ignition. Another man entered the vehicle and drove away.
Detectives have obtained surveillance video of the suspect and are hoping someone will recognize him. He was seen walking around the gas station and looking into vehicles as early as 9:40 p.m. that evening. The 1998 Chevy Camaro convertible is a relatively uncommon vehicle. This vehicle was silver in color with a black, cloth top, bearing Virginia license plate number YJM-2284.
The suspect was described as black, in his late teens to early 20s. He was about 5 feet 9 inches tall and was wearing a red hoodie and blue jeans.
Anyone with information on the stolen vehicle or the suspect is asked to contact Fairfax County Crime Solvers by phone at 1-866-411-TIPS/8477, e-mail at www.fairfaxcrimesolvers.org or text "TIP187" plus your message to CRIMES/274637.
