Business Compliance Checks in
West Springfield Police District
West Springfield Police District - On Saturday, March 13, officers from the West Springfield District Station Neighborhood Patrol Unit, conducted business compliance checks at several locations in the Burke, Annandale and Springfield areas of Fairfax County. The sting was part of the “Spring Break” enforcement campaign which was conducted using a county police cadet dressed in plain clothing to purchase alcohol. The cadet entered stores and attempted to purchase alcohol. If asked whether he was 21 years old, the cadet was to respond with his true age and/or date of birth. If asked for identification, he was to tell the clerk that he had no identification with him. If the sale of alcohol took place, the plain-clothed officer would take possession of the alcohol from the cadet and make the appropriate charge(s), along with the assistance of the uniformed officer assigned to the team.
As a result of this operation, 12 locations were entered, with four arrests made for for the illegal sale of alcohol to a minor. Those offenses occurred at the CVS pharmacy, 7859 Heritage Drive, H Mart, 7885 Heritage Drive, 7-Eleven, 8017 Braddock Road and Giant Food, 6011 Burke Centre Parkway.
The stings were conducted using one team consisting of three plain-clothed officers, one uniformed officer and one cadet.
