Police Sideline Defective Trucks

            Fairfax County – Police grounded half of the trucks they inspected at today’s comprehensive inspection, citing 80 safety and equipment violations.  Out of 18 trucks checked, nine were placed out-of-service. Commercial motor carrier safety officers focused on construction vehicles throughout the morning, from 7 until 11:30 a.m., at a vacant lot near Anderson Road and Route 123. They found a variety of infractions, including: faulty brakes, flat tires, steering mechanism problems, a cracked truck frame, and one driver who possessed marijuana while driving a commercial motor vehicle.

Congestion Crackdown in Tyson’s Area

                Fairfax County – Fairfax County Police officers are conducting comprehensive truck safety inspections on Tuesday, March 23 in the Tyson’s Corner area. With a greater number of large trucks and commercial vehicles working on construction projects such as the HOT lanes and Dulles Toll Road, proper attention to safety and vehicle maintenance is crucial to keeping traffic moving safely and freely.  

            Officers selected this location in an effort to bring attention to the importance of motor carrier safety. Properly secured loads and up-to-date equipment and licensure are critical components to keeping trucks moving in and out of the corridor.

 

            Where: Lot at intersection of Route 123/Anderson Road

            When: 7 a.m. – 11 a.m., Tuesday, March 23

            What: Media will have opportunities to interview officers assigned to the Motor Carrier Safety Unit as they inspect trucks and to learn how unsafe trucks impact Fairfax County roadways.
