Business Compliance Checks in
West Springfield District
West Springfield Police District – On Monday, March 29, officers from the West Springfield District Station Neighborhood Patrol Unit conducted stings at several locations in the Springfield, Fairfax, and Burke areas of Fairfax County. The sting was part of the ongoing “Spring Break” safety campaign which was conducted using a county police cadet dressed in plain clothing to purchase alcohol. The cadet entered stores and attempted to purchase alcohol. If asked whether he was 21 years old, the cadet was to respond with his true age and/or date of birth. If asked for identification, he was to tell the clerk that he had no identification with him. If the sale of alcohol took place, the plain-clothed officer would take possession of the alcohol from the cadet and make the appropriate charge(s), along with the assistance of the uniformed officer assigned to the team.
As a result of this operation, 13 locations were entered. Two illegal sales were made inside the establishments, including the CVS Pharmacy, 8330 Old Keene Mill Road, Springfield and Safeway, 9525 Braddock Road, Fairfax.
The stings were conducted using one team consisting of one plain-clothed officer, one uniformed officer, one supervisor, and one cadet.
