Alcohol Stings in McLean District
Franconia Police District - On Wednesday, April 14, officers from the McLean District Station Neighborhood Patrol Unit, conducted stings at several locations along Lee Highway and Arlington Boulevard in Fairfax County. The sting was part of the youth alcohol/business compliance enforcement campaign which was conducted using a county police cadet dressed in plain clothing to purchase alcohol. The cadet entered stores and attempted to purchase alcohol. If asked whether he was 21 years old, the cadet was to respond with his true age and/or date of birth. If asked for identification, he was to tell the clerk that he had no identification with him. If the sale of alcohol took place, the plain-clothed officer would take possession of the alcohol from the cadet and make the appropriate charge(s), along with the assistance of the uniformed officer assigned to the team.
As a result of the sting operation, 20 locations were entered, with one arrest made for the illegal sale of alcohol to a minor. That offense occurred at the 7-Eleven located at 7222 Arlington Boulevard.
The stings were conducted using one team consisting of one plain-clothed officer, one uniformed officer, and one cadet.
