School Bus Hit by Bullet

            Mason Police District – Shortly after 3 p.m. on Wednesday May 12, police responded to the area of Summit Place near Oak Ridge Drive for the report of a county school bus that had possibly been hit by a bullet. Officers arrived, assessed the situation, and determined that a hole in the bus was in fact caused by a bullet. A perimeter was established and a door to door canvass was conducted. The police helicopter and K9 units were called in to assist in the investigation.

            There were approximately 31 children on the bus as well as the bus driver, and nobody was injured.

            During the canvass, police identified a 14-year-old suspect in a home in the 4300 block of Summit Place. A weapon, believed to be used in this incident, was recovered.

            Detectives from the crime scene and homicide sections responded to the scene.

            The 14-year-old was turned over to authorities on Thursday, May 13 shortly before noon. He was charged withreckless discharge of a firearm and shooting at an occupied vehicle.
