Crash Victim Succumbs to Injuries

            Mason Police District – A 76-year-old man died yesterday at Inova Fairfax Hospital as a result of injuries he sustained in a crash that occurred on Saturday, May 22. A 1997 Ford Escort, driven by a 20-year-old man, was eastbound on Woodburn Road approaching the intersection of Gallows Road shortly after 9 p.m. The 76-year-old pedestrian, attempting to cross Woodburn Road, walked into the path of the vehicle and was struck. The pedestrian was not in a crosswalk.

            Glenn Melton, of 3318 Woodburn Village Drive, was transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital and was pronounced dead around 11:45 p.m. yesterday.

            The driver of the Ford Escort remained on the scene and was not injured.

            Speed and alcohol were not believed to be factors contributing to the crash.
