Bank Robber Arrested in Parking Lot

Franconia Police District – Police apprehended a 29-year-old Alexandria area man in the parking lot of a bank the suspect had allegedly robbed just minutes earlier.

Makele G. Habtom, of 5217 Cannes Court, was found with the proceeds of the robbery on his person, arrested and transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.

A man entered the BB&T Bank, 5203 Franconia Road, just before 5 p.m. on Thursday, May 27. He approached a teller and demanded money, took it and fled. Upon hearing a description of the suspect, officers responded to the area and found Habtom minutes later in the parking lot of the bank. There were no injuries and no weapon was located.
