UPDATE: Arrest Made in Annandale Sex Assaults

 

            Police arrested a 17-year-old allegedly responsible for the sexually-motivated assaults that took place in the Avant Apartment Complex between May 9 and June 29. An alert officer patrolling the neighborhood on Tuesday, July 6 recognized the suspect from a canvass flyer and reported it to Sex Crimes detectives. After a brief investigation, the suspect was arrested the following day.

            The Annandale-area teen was taken to the juvenile detention center and charged with three counts of sexual battery and one count of animate object sexual penetration.

            West Springfield Police District – An 18-year-old woman was sexually assaulted on Tuesday, June 29 at the Avant Apartment Complex in the 7900 block of Charles Thomson Lane. The victim was about to enter an apartment around 7:09 p.m. when a man ran up, grabbed her and touched her inappropriately. A family member heard the commotion and chased the suspect away.

            He was seen running through the community toward Braddock Road Elementary School. He was described as Asian, between 18 and 20 years old. He was about 5 feet 5 inches tall and 200 pounds, had straight, shoulder-length black hair, glasses and wore dark clothing.

            Detectives believe the suspect is responsible for three other sexually-motivated assaults in the area. A composite sketch has been released and can be viewed on the police public Website in the June 29 news release. Women Assaulted in the Annandale Area

            West Springfield Police District – Fairfax County Police Sex Crimes detectives are investigating three cases in which women were assaulted at the Avant Apartment Complex in Annandale. The first incident took place on Sunday, May 9, when a 25-year-old woman was walking through a common area of an apartment building in the 4500 block of John Tyler Court around 9:51 p.m when a man quickly approached and assaulted her. The victim screamed and the suspect fled.

The second and third incidents both occurred on Sunday, June 6. Around 3 a.m., a 23-year-old woman was in a common area of another apartment building in the 4500 block of John Tyler Court when a man approached, assaulted her and fled.

Approximately 30 to 60 minutes later, an 18-year-old woman walking up to an apartment building in the 7900 block of Charles Thomson Lane was assaulted by a man who quickly approached then fled when friends ran to help her. The victims did not require medical attention. Detectives suspect that the all the assaults are sexually motivated.

            The suspect in all of these cases is described as Asian between 20 to 25 years old and wearing dark clothing.
