Fatal Crash in the Chantilly Area

            Fair Oaks Police District - Police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred around 1:38 a.m. on Friday, August 20, at Lee Jackson Memorial Highway and Lees Corner Road. Detectives from the Crash Reconstruction Unit determined a 2003 Acura MDX, driven by a 71-year-old woman, was traveling west on Lee Jackson Memorial Highway (Route 50) approaching Lees Corner Road. The driver of a 2001 Volkswagen Passat was traveling north on Lees Corner Road and entered the intersection at Route 50. The Acura struck the Volkswagen in the westbound lanes of Route 50.

            The driver of the Passat, Burbuqe Mirena, 21, of 47537 Saulty Drive in Sterling, was transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital. She was pronounced dead around 6:25 a.m. that same morning. The other driver was transported with non life-threatening injuries and later released.

            Detectives would like to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the crash. The investigation is ongoing and no charges have been placed.
