Are your children buckled up safely?

In observance of 2010 Child Passenger Safety Week, September 19 – 25, officers encourage parents and caregivers to stop by Inova Fair Oaks Hospital, 3600 Joseph Siewick Drive, Fairfax between 1 and 3 p.m. Friday, September 24 to have their child safety restraints checked by a certified child passenger safety technician.

“It’s the responsibility of every parent and caregiver to make sure their children are safely restrained; every trip, every time,” said Susan Culin, Commander of the Traffic Division. “Laws and the restraint devices can be complicated; we encourage motorists to take advantage of this opportunity to talk with the professionals and to learn more.”

Police officers issued 1,709 summonses for improper child restraint in 2009. So far in 2010, 1,209 summonses have been written.
