UPDATE – Police Notify Public of Additional Burglaries
Police officers went door-to-door notifying residents in the Hunter Mill Road area of a burglary, and an attempted burglary, that occurred in their neighborhood this morning. Police responded to a report in the 1800 block of Horseback Trail around 7 a.m. on Tuesday, October 12. The resident stated that cash was removed from her purse overnight. Following a neighborhood canvas, officers determined a burglar(s) had attempted to enter at least one other home.
Mason District police officers also canvassed the Mantua area neighborhood on Thursday, October 7 and received two reports of additional burglary attempts and one larceny from a vehicle. Detectives believe these crimes may have occurred in connection with similar incidents that took place Friday, October 1.
Police continue to ask the public to lock their doors, secure their valuables and get updated information on the Police Department Website at www.fairfaxcounty.gov/police.
UPDATE – Serial Burglar Strikes Mason District
During the overnight hours of Thursday, September 30 into the early morning hours of Friday, October 1, three additional homes were burglarized and an attempt was made at another home in the Fairfax area. In each of the three burglaries, entry was made through unlocked or open doors. A screen was cut in the attempted burglary.
There are now 87 incidents related to this serial burglar. Of those, 57 are burglaries or attempted burglaries. The remaining 30 incidents are larcenies from vehicles, suspicious persons and suspicious noise complaints. The numbers continue to remain fluid and change daily as reports are investigated.
Police continue to urge residents throughout the county to lock their doors and windows; this includes garage doors. Additional safety tips are provided below.
UPDATE – Additional Burglaries and Larcenies Reported; Crime Solvers Continues to Seek Help from the Public
During the overnight hours of Tuesday, September 28 into the early morning hours of Wednesday, September 29, seven additional homes were burglarized and an attempt was made to enter one other home in the Oakton area. In six of those incidents, the suspect entered through an unlocked door or window; the other two homes were entered by prying doors open.
The McLean Police District was struck the night before. During the overnight hours of Monday, September 27 into the early morning hours of Tuesday, September 28 one home was burglarized and there were attempts to enter three other homes.
There are now currently 82 incidents related to this serial burglar. Of those, 53 are burglaries or attempted burglaries. The remaining 29 incidents are larcenies from vehicles, suspicious noises and suspicious persons. These numbers remain fluid and change daily as reports are investigated.
The suspect continues to target money, purses and small items. However, two handguns were stolen from a vehicle and police urge residents to use caution should they encounter a burglar in their home. In addition, homeowners are urged to secure their homes, particularly at night, by locking all doors, windows and garage doors. Try not to leave money, keys or purses near an entryway and do not leave valuables in an unattended vehicle, to include garage door openers.
Residents are asked to be vigilant in their neighborhoods by reporting suspicious persons to police immediately and looking out for their neighbors.
The Fair Oaks Police District Station will host a community meeting tonight, Wednesday, September 29, at 7:30 p.m. at Waples Mill Elementary School, 11509 Waples Mill Road, Oakton.
The Sully Police District Station will host a community meeting on Thursday, September 30 at 8 p.m. at Fairview Elementary School, 5815 Ox Road, Fairfax Station. All members of the community are encouraged to attend.

UPDATE – Additional Incidents Linked to Same Suspect; Crime Solvers Continues to Seek Help from the Public
Police have linked an additional 21 incidents they believe have been committed by the same suspect responsible for a series of burglaries and larcenies across the county. Thirteen additional burglaries and at least 13 other related incidents such as larcenies from vehicles, suspicious persons and suspicious noises were reported to police in the last week and detectives believe the same suspect is responsible. These numbers continue to change on a daily basis as reports are investigated.
Two handguns are among the items stolen from vehicles so residents should be extremely cautious. Police stress that the suspect makes entry through unlocked doors and windows so locking up may be the best deterrent.
Police also warn residents:
Do not leave items of value or garage door openers inside unattended vehicles and ensure your vehicle is locked.
When returning home, try not to leave purses, cash or keys near an entryway.
Promote safety by using the exterior lights on your home as well. If you notice suspicious persons or activity, call the non-emergency police number (703-691-2131) and report it.

Police Investigate Series of Burglaries and Larcenies; Crime
Solvers Asks Public for Help
Fairfax County Police are investigating a series of burglaries and larcenies that have occurred throughout the northern section of the county and Crime Solvers is asking for the public’s help in identifying and locating the suspect. Detectives have linked at least 44 reported incidents that they believe were committed by the same suspect. Of those, there are 24 burglaries, 13 larcenies from vehicles and two unlawful entries. These incidents began on Tuesday, August 24 in the Clifton area. Since then, the suspect has targeted homes throughout the Sully, Fair Oaks, Reston and McLean Police Districts.
The suspect mainly enters occupied homes through unlocked or open doors and windows. He steals cash, purses and property from inside. The purses are usually discarded outside in close proximity to the victims’ homes with only cash missing. He enters vehicles that are unlocked or smashes a window and takes property from inside that is in plain view. All of these incidents have occurred during the overnight hours.
Detectives believe this suspect is a man, 5 feet 8 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall and 150 to 175 pounds.
Residents are urged to ensure their cars are locked while unattended and that no personal items of value are left inside or in plain view. In addition, make sure doors and windows are closed and locked at home; this includes garage doors. When returning home, try not to leave purses, wallets or keys near an entryway.
