Newborn Baby Found Outside Local Church
Police are trying to locate the mother of a newborn baby left outside a local church this morning. Around 6:30 a.m. on Sunday, November 14, a parishioner arrived at the Saint Raymond of Penafort Catholic Church, located at 8750 Pohick Road in the Springfield area. He observed a duffel bag in the parking lot. When he retrieved it, he found a newborn, baby girl inside. The baby was taken inside the church and cared for until help arrived. Rescue then transported the baby to Inova Fairfax Hospital.
Investigators have determined the baby was left outside for a short time before she was found. She is reported to be in good condition and is expected to remain in the hospital for several days. Doctors believe the baby may be of Hispanic descent. They believe she may have been born between midnight and 6 a.m. and appears to be full-term.
Detectives know this baby was not delivered in a hospital and they are concerned for the health of the mother and child. If anyone feels they know who the mother is, they are asked to call police at 703-691-2131 or contact Crime Solvers by phone at 1-866-411-TIPS/8477, e-mail at www.fairfaxcrimesolvers.org or text “TIP187” plus your message to CRIMES/274637.
Detectives do not know who left the baby at the church. If anyone saw a person or vehicle in or around that parking lot between 6 and 6:30 a.m., they are asked to contact police as well.
