Update on Fatal Crash
Fair Oaks Police District – Police have identified the driver in this case as Robert Bittner of 21322 Sorrel Grove Court in Ashburn, Virginia. Mr. Bittner was operating a 1999 Toyota Camry.
Fatal Crash in Franklin Farms Area
Fair Oaks Police District – On Tuesday, March 20 around 12:56 p.m., police responded to a crash on the Fairfax County Parkway near Franklin Farms Road.
A 56-year-old Ashburn-area man was driving southbound on Fairfax County Parkway and for unknown reasons, left the roadway just past Franklin Farms Road and struck the sound barrier. After passers-by had pulled the driver from the vehicle, the vehicle caught on fire. The driver was medevaced to a nearby hospital where he died.
Investigation by Crash Reconstruction Unit detectives is still underway and more details of the crash will be forthcoming tomorrow. However, speed and alcohol are not considered factors in the crash.
