Police Impersonator Targets Elderly in the Baileys Crossroads Area
Mason Police District – A 93-year-old man was assaulted and robbed as he exited his vehicle in the 5700 block of Leesburg Pike on Wednesday, August 1. Police were called to the area around 10:24 a.m. and located the victim in the parking lot.
An investigation determined the suspect approached the victim and reportedly identified himself as a police officer, displaying some type of credentials. The suspect allegedly demanded the victim’s license and struck the victim several times before taking his wallet and fleeing in a Ford Mustang. The victim was treated at the scene for minor injuries.
Several witnesses came to the aid of the victim and provided key information to identify the suspect. Rudolph Victor Curtis, 59, of Arlington, was arrested and charged with robbery, malicious wounding, and impersonating a law enforcement officer.
Detectives have connected this case to two others. On Saturday, June 9, at 5 p.m. in the 3400 block of South Jefferson Street, an 85-year-old man was victimized in a similar way. He was not struck, but cash from his wallet was stolen. An 81-year-old man had cash stolen on Tuesday, July 24, at 11 a.m. also in the 3400 block of South Jefferson Street. He was not injured.
