Drowning in Pohick Bay
Franconia Police District - A 58-year-old Lorton man drowned in the waters of Pohick Bay around 3:30 p.m. Monday, September 24.
John R. Funk, of 10000 block of Midway Lane, was seen fishing from a kayak. Witnesses saw the kayak capsize about 100 yards from shore and the victim was seen swimming toward shore. Witnesses yelled to the victim and ran for help but the victim disappeared under the water quickly.
According to first responders, the victim was not wearing a personal floatation device, nor was one located in the kayak.
