UPDATE
As the investigation continues, detectives have confirmed the names of
the deceased; Albert Peterson, 57, Kathleen Peterson, 52 and their two
children, Matthew, 16 and Christopher, 13. The preliminary investigation
indicates that Albert Peterson killed his wife and their children before
taking his own life. The state Office of the Medical Examiner determined
the cause of death for each of the deceased to be gunshot wounds to the
upper body.
Four Bodies Found in Herndon-area Home
Fair Oaks Police District – Police responded to check on the welfare of a resident in the 13300 block of Point Rider Lane shortly after 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 25. Co-workers of the resident were concerned that they had not reported to work for two days and contacted police.
Shortly after noon, police breached the home and found the bodies of four people in the residence. They are preliminarily identifying them as a family of four; two parents and two school-aged children.
Currently, the cases are being investigated as suspicious deaths and are under investigation. Identities are being withheld pending notification of next of kin. Autopsies will be conducted by the Office of the Medical Examiner to determine cause and manner of death.
Police feel that the situation is contained within the household and that there is no broader threat to the community.
