Fatal Crash in Annandale Area
Franconia Police District – On Thursday, October 25, around 2:15 a.m., police responded to a fatal crash on Backlick Road.
A 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe was traveling northbound on Backlick Road when the driver failed to negotiate a curve prior to John Marr Drive. The Tahoe crossed the double yellow line and left the roadway on the southbound side of Backlick Road and struck a pole. The driver was ejected. Maximiliano Ponce-Cruz, 27, of Annandale died at the scene.
Speed and alcohol are considered factors in the crash. Preliminary investigation suggests Ponce-Cruz was not wearing a seat belt.
