Fatal Pedestrian Crash in Barcroft Area

Mason Police District – Police are investigating a fatal pedestrian crash that occurred on Monday, November 12 near the intersection of Columbia Pike and Ashwood Place. Around 2:07 p.m. a 72-year-old man was operating a 1998 Chevrolet S10 pickup truck westbound on Columbia Pike. A 58-year-old woman on a bicycle was attempting to cross Columbia Pike from north to south. As she crossed over the westbound lanes, she was struck by the truck. She hit the hood and went over the roof.

Elizabeth P. Shattuck, of 3216 Patrick Henry Drive in Falls Church, was pronounced dead at the scene. Speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors. There is not a crosswalk at the intersection.
