Armed Robbery in Engleside Area

Mount Vernon Police District – Police made an arrest in an armed robbery case that occurred Monday, June 17. Around 11:30 p.m. a 20-year-old man was riding a bicycle at Main Street and Gregory Drive when a sedan pulled along side him. The driver exited his vehicle, displayed a handgun and demanded cash from the victim while another suspect observed from the passenger side of the vehicle. The victim relinquished cash and the suspects fled in their vehicle. Responding police officers spotted the suspect vehicle, stopped it and took both suspects into custody.

Jacob Gilbertson, 23, of 7970 Audubon Avenue, and Benjamin Yeannakis, 23, of 2902 Mosby Street in Alexandria, have both been charged with robbery and with the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
