Pedestrian Fatally Struck

Mount Vernon Police District – Around 5:03 a.m., on Thursday, February 20, William Godfrey Jr, 68, of Alexandria, was crossing Richmond Highway near the intersection with Backlick Road. A 2005 Honda Civic, driven by a 58-year-old woman, was going north on Richmond Highway and struck Godfrey.

Mr. Godfrey was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver was not injured.

While the crash remains under investigation, it does appear that alcohol was a factor on the part of the pedestrian. Speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors on the part of the driver. Next of kin has been notified.
