Fatal Crash in Springfield

Franconia Police District – Police responded to a home in the 7300 block of Hooes Road for the report of a crash, on Wednesday, March 26, shortly after 10 a.m. During the preliminary investigation, officers determined that one resident of the home, 84-year-old Chong Sik Kim, walked to the mailbox at the end of the driveway. During the same time, Kim’s 72-year-old wife backed the couples’ 2009 Lexus RX5 from the garage and down the driveway. It appears that Mr. Kim slipped on ice and fell to the ground on his way back to the house. Mrs. Kim apparently did not see him and the Lexus appears to have backed over him.

Mr. Kim was transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital and was pronounced dead a short time later.

Neither speed nor alcohol were factors in the crash.

No charges will be placed.
