Homicide Investigations Update

Investigation has led detectives to link the Marion Marshall and Marion Newman homicides. The same suspect is believed to have committed the murders and may have ties to the Crestwood Community and Edsall Park Communities in the North Springfield area.

Police are asking for assistance from the community to identify the suspect.

He took an unusual ring from Marion Newman and may have displayed, sold or traded it to someone in the area. The custom-made ring is described as white gold with a three diamond setting; the diamonds are side-by-side. There is a leaf design in the band.

                                                Ring

The suspect is committing crimes of opportunity; police encourage the community to take safety precautions. Safety tips are listed on the Fairfax County Police Department Web site.

Anyone with information about the ring, these murders or a potential suspect is asked to call Crime Solvers at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477) or the police non-emergency number at 703-691-2131. An additional phone number has been established for those who would like to call in tips in Spanish. That number is 703-246-2678.
