Fatal Crash in the Hybla Valley Area

            On Friday, February 23 at approximately 8:30 p.m., a 55-year-old man was struck by a vehicle as he attempted to cross Richmond Highway. The pedestrian was walking westbound across the 7500 block of Richmond Highway and was struck in one of the southbound lanes by a 2007 Volkswagen Jetta. The pedestrian, identified as Peter J. McGrath of no fixed address, was transported to Inova Mount Vernon Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The driver, a 23-year-old Alexandria-area woman, was not injured in the crash. It is unknown whether speed or alcohol were factors in the crash.
