NATIONAL NIGHT OUT 2007
America’s Night Out Against Crime
On Tuesday, August 7, neighborhoods throughout Fairfax County are invited to join forces with thousands of communities nationwide for the “24th Annual National Night Out” (NNO) crime and drug prevention event.
National Night Out is designed to:
- Heighten awareness of crime and drug prevention
- Generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime efforts
- Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships
- Send a message to criminals that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
From 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Fairfax County will host its first countywide National Night Out kick-off event for National Night Out at Camelot Elementary School, 8100 Guinevere Drive, Annandale, Virginia. Police Chief, Colonel David M. Rohrer as well as other distinguished guests will be on hand. There will be child fingerprinting, police displays and light refreshments.
That evening from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. residents in neighborhoods throughout Fairfax County and across the nation are asked to lock their doors, turn on outside lights and spend time outside with neighbors and police. Many neighborhoods throughout Fairfax County will be hosting a variety of special events such as block parties, cookouts, parades, visits from police, flashlight walks, contests, youth activities and anti-crime rallies.
National Night Out, sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW) and co-sponsored locally by the Fairfax County Police Department, will involve more than 10,000 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases around the world. In all, more than 34 million people are expected to participate in ‘America’s Night Out Against Crime’ this year. NNO 2007 is once again being supported in part by the Target Corporation and the U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance.
