Police Investigate Series of 24 Burglaries
Police responded to seven commercial burglaries and one attempted burglary in the Springfield and Annandale areas early Friday, September 21. The first business was broken into about 2:27 a.m. and the last report was around 3:30 a.m. Officers located smashed glass from the front doors in all the cases and in some, the cash registers were emptied. The businesses involved were along the Little River Turnpike corridor, Bradlick Shopping Center and Commerce Street.
Detectives have linked these burglaries to others in the area, totaling 24 cases. The first burglary occurred on March 31, 2007 with the majority of the series occurring between July and September. Several businesses were burglarized multiple times and others on Columbia Pike were also hit.
Police recommend business owners keep cash in a safe or locked box away from the register overnight. Installation of video surveillance and alarm systems is also recommended. Always call police to report suspicious people loitering at odd hours or frequenting shopping areas.
