Advisory: Santa’s Ride (EJA)
December 3, 2007
Santa’s Ride, on a Harley?
As Christmas approaches, children everywhere will be watching the skies for Santa Claus. In Fairfax County some very special children won't have to wait until Christmas Eve. Santa and his elves will be rumbling down the streets of Fairfax County on motorcycles December 12, 13 and 14.
Once again, Santa has traded in his sleigh and reindeer for a motorcycle. The Fairfax County Police Motorcycle Squad, in cooperation with the Fairfax County Sheriff’s Office, Virginia State Police, Fairfax City Police, Falls Church City Police, Town of Herndon Police and Town of Vienna Police will be escorting Santa on his 20th annual Ride for Children.
On Wednesday, December 12, Santa and his motorcade will pick up toys and other donations from police stations and other government facilities throughout the county. Santa and his helpers will deliver the toys to children at the Georgetown Lombardi Cancer Center on December 13 and INOVA Fairfax Hospital Child Life Center on December 14. Also on December 14, the Ronald McDonald House will receive toys and bicycles. This year a small portion of the toys will be delivered to the children of Fairfax County Police officers currently fulfilling military obligations and are deployed overseas. Any left over toys will be delivered to the Reston F.I.S.H. (For Immediate Sympathetic Help) on December 17.
Anyone wishing to make a donation should bring a new, unwrapped toy, game, book, stuffed animal or other gift to any Fairfax County Police station or the Fairfax County print shop at the Government Center. All donations should be made before 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 11.
An itinerary for Santa and his helpers is available upon request from the Public Information Office at 703-246-2253.
