Malicious Wounding in Springfield

A man was shot as the result of an apparent domestic related dispute. Shortly after 10 p.m. on Saturday, December 9, the occupants of a town home in the 7200 block of Jillspring Court received several anonymous telephone calls. Simultaneous to one of the calls, there was a knock at the door. When one of the occupants opened the door, the suspect allegedly fired several rounds, striking the victim at least twice in the upper body. The suspect fled. The victim, a 29-year-old man from Washington, D.C., was transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

Detectives, crime scene investigators, a K9 team and the police helicopter responded to the area.

An investigation led to the arrest of Eric Crutchfield, 26, of 4802 Stockton Lane, Hyattsville, Maryland. Crutchfield is being held at an adult detention center in Maryland, awaiting extradition back to Virginia. He has been charged with malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and shooting into an occupied dwelling.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Solvers at 1-866-411-TIPS/8477 or Fairfax County Police at 703-691-2131.
