Traffic Crash Reports

Who is entitled to copies of crash reports?

Only those listed on the crash report are eligible to obtain copies of police crash reports including:

  • Individuals involved in the crash
  • Injured persons
  • Property owners
  • Attorneys and/or insurance agents representing the driver or property owner

How can I get a copy if I am one of the above?

  • Make requests in writing to: Central Records 10600 Page Avenue, Fairfax, VA 22030
  • Make requests in person between 8 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday to Central Records, located in the Police Annex at the above address or to the district police station in which the crash occurred

Are there fees for obtaining a crash report?

  • NO fee for drivers, property owners or injured persons.
  • All others must pay a $5 fee by cash, credit card, money order or check made out to the County of Fairfax.

Crash Photographs

How can I get police photographs taken at the crash scene?

Not all traffic crashes are photographed by police. If police took photographs, they are available for purchase to:

  • Vehicle owners and drivers
  • Attorneys or insurance companies representing the owners and/or drivers
  • Injured persons
  • Property owners

How much are police photographs of traffic crashes?

  • A fee of $2 per print is charged
  • Payment can be made in the form of cash, credit card, money order or check made payable to the County of Fairfax 

Where can I get police photographs from the traffic crash?

  • Make requests in writing to: Central Records 10600 Page Avenue, Fairfax, VA  22030
  • Make requests in person between 8 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday to Central Records, located in the Police Annex at the above address 

Police Incident Reports

Can I get a copy of a police report?

Copies of police reports are released only to law enforcement officers or by subpoena. However, if you were involved in an incident that resulted in a police report, you may obtain an incident verification form no less than 48 hours after the actual report was taken. It includes written verification that a police report was filed, including the case number assigned to that incident.

Who can get incident verification forms?

  • Victims of a crime
  • Property owners
  • Those directly involved in the incident itself 

Where can I get an incident verification form?

  • Make requests in person between 8 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday to Central Records, located in the Police Annex at the above address

Is there any cost for incident verification forms?

  • There is a $10 fee
  • Payment accepted in the form of cash, credit card, money order or check made payable to the County of Fairfax 

Fingerprints

If you need your fingerprints taken, you may visit the Police Annex, 10600 Page Avenue, Fairfax, VA 22030, during normal business hours. You must bring:

  • Your own fingerprint cards
  • Two current forms of identification. One must include a photograph and your date of birth including but not limited to:
    • A valid driver’s license
    • A social security card
    • Birth certificate
    • Passport
    • Military Identification
    • Medicare card
    • State-issued identification card
    • A green card

Is there any cost for being fingerprinted?

  • A $10 fee is charged for the first set of print cards.
  • An additional fee of $5 is charged for each additional set.
  • Payment in the form of cash, credit card, money order or check made payable to the County of Fairfax is accepted.

Criminal Record Checks

How do I obtain a copy of my criminal record?

You must appear in person at Central Records, 10600 Page Avenue, Fairfax, VA 22030. . You will be required to provide two forms of identification. One must contain your photograph and date of birth. The following is a list of acceptable forms of identification: 

  • A valid driver’s license
  • A social security card
  • Birth certificate
  • Passport
  • Military Identification
  • Medicare card
  • State-issued identification card
  • A green card

Can I get a copy of a neighbor’s criminal record?

No, you can only get a copy of your own record

Is there a cost for obtaining a copy of my criminal record?

  • A $10 fee is charged
  • Payment in the form of cash, credit card, money order or check made payable to the County of Fairfax is accepted.
