Citizen Helps Catch a Speeder

On Sunday, February 27 shortly after 8 p.m., an officer allegedly witnessed a red car traveling at a high rate of speed in the area of Healy Drive and Belfast Lane and attempted to stop the vehicle, a 1996 red Acura Integra. The driver allegedly did not stop and fled down Hanover Street onto Old Keene Mill Road. The officer lost sight of the vehicle but he and other officers continued to search for it. A citizen informed officers they saw the vehicle turn onto Ava Street. They located the vehicle and driver nearby.

The driver was a 17-year-old Springfield boy. He was transported to the Fairfax County Juvenile Detention Center and charged with speed to elude, reckless driving, possession of tobacco by a minor, and six counts of failing to stop at a stop sign. The car was impounded by the officers.
