Solicitors Require a License

You get a knock at the door. Someone is there to sell you magazines, siding, wood or some other product or service. You may be interested in the product or want to help the charity involved.

Before you do … Is the solicitor licensed? … Is the business they represent legitimate? These are a couple of questions you should ask yourself.

                REMEMBER your safety is priority.

“Door-to-door” solicitors require a solicitor’s license in Fairfax County. The Regulation and Licensing Branch of the Fairfax County Department of Cable and Consumer Affairs recently published a brochure where you can see an example of a solicitor’s license.

When a solicitor knocks:

  • Ask for his or her license.

  • If they do not have a valid license, ask them to leave.

  • Call Fairfax County Police (non-emergency) at 703-691-2131 to report the violation.
