Traffic Enforcement in Franconia Police District

All district stations have officers that focus solely on traffic enforcement and traffic issues in their district. Their primary function is to locate violators of traffic laws and take appropriate action; yes, this usually means issuing a Virginia Uniform Summons, more commonly known as a ticket. They compile data on average speeds and traffic flow then use this information to focus their efforts on gaining compliance by all residents. They may post a traffic sign board or radar display board to remind you to slow down. They may also employ a Ghost Cruiser around the district.

Here at the Franconia District Station we have Officer J. E. Thompson.  He has strictly worked traffic enforcement for approximately 10 months. He has written over 2,800 citations in that time. That is approximately 280 tickets a month. Officer Thompson is constantly driving throughout the Franconia Police District looking for traffic violations. He uses his LIDAR (Light Detection and Ranging), more commonly known as a “Laser Radar”, to help identify speeding vehicles.

Officer Thompson still needs your assistance to identify where people are committing traffic offences. He can be contacted by email at FranconiaStationCPO@fairfaxcounty.gov.
