Lightcap Passes Away

K-9 Lightcap served Fairfax County as an Explosives Ordinance Disposal (EOD) team member from April 2006 to February 2011. In his final year, he continued to serve while battling cancer. He died on Thursday, July 14.

He was a great “bomb” dog with several successful “finds” (locating an explosive device). In October 2010, his keen ability was used to find a spent shell casing from a shooting in the Franconia area.

Although assigned to the Special Operations Division, Lightcap and his handler, PFC Brian Buckholtz, worked daily here in Franconia. Lightcap could be found walking through the property with an apparent smile always on his face ready to play fetch with anyone willing to throw the ball. He will be missed.
