Hurricane Irene is on her way. Are you ready? The county has listed Hurricane Preparedness Tips. The National Weather Service National Hurricane Center has additional information.
The officers at the Franconia Police District Station are getting ready. We will have extra officers on duty to include some dedicated to ensure the roads are open and safe for travel. Officers will be responding to emergency calls during the storm. Captain Shawn Bennett, Franconia Station Commander, stated, “Safety of my officers and our residents is paramount both during and after the storm. The focus will be on emergencies. Know that the officers are out there. ”
The challenge after the storm will be to get everything back to normal. This is when some of the hard work will take place. Please give us a day. All utilities and response personnel and equipment will be deployed. You can help by resisting the urge to go out for unnecessary needs.
Should you need to venture out, remember to treat all traffic intersections with power outages as a four-way stop intersection. Also, do not leave your vehicles on “Snow Emergency Routes”. The vehicles may receive a ticket and/or get towed.
Here is a list of the Snow Emergency Routes in the Franconia Police District:
