Fairfax County Police Department Final Update to Red Truck Incidents in Franconia
Detectives at the Franconia District Station are pleased to announce that the investigation into the red truck observed around area schools is complete. No crime was reported or found to have occurred. Through multiple community tips, a red truck was identified to have been driving through the neighborhoods in the morning hours, with a valid explanation for its presence. After an extensive interview with the cooperative owner of the vehicle, he is not believed to have had any criminal intent or involvement in any criminal activity. As a result of the investigation, some statements previously made by children at the locations in question have been retracted. Though alarming, the lessons learned from this case cannot be underestimated in their value. Schools, neighborhoods, and police came together to share information, work cohesively, and ensure the safety of children. Many parents reviewed personal safety information with their children. The number of calls and tips provided by residents regarding suspicious vehicles and persons in the area was extremely helpful in bringing this case to conclusion. We hope that you remain vigilant about your neighborhood and always remember to call police immediately at 703-691-2131 when suspicious activity is taking place.
