Fairfax County Police Department Walk This Way
Officers of the Franconia District Station will conduct a Pedestrian Safety Campaign during the week of April 15- April 21. The campaign will focus on enforcement and education in order to reduce motor vehicle crashes involving pedestrians. This effort is based on statistics showing that the Franconia District had 24 crashes involving pedestrians from April 15, 2011 through March 13, 2012. The majority of the crashes occurred during warmer weather months. All of the crashes resulted in injuries. Enforcement will focus on drivers not yielding to pedestrians in crosswalks, drivers stopping and blocking crosswalks, and how and where pedestrians cross highways. Officers will be distributing pedestrian safety brochures and educating the public on safer practices. Please be mindful of the crosswalks in your area, and remain vigilant in your travels. If you would like to contact our Traffic Enforcement Officer, MPO Thompson, directly to report an area experiencing repeated violations, you may email him directly at FranconiaStationCPO@fairfaxcounty.gov. ###
