Fairfax County Police Department Spin Safely
“Bicyclists are subject to the same laws as motor vehicles, and people can be charged with reckless driving on a bicycle,” MPO Tim Thomas explains to the 5th grade classes of Bush Hill Elementary School on April 12, 2012. The classes discussed helmets, right of way and hand signals for turning or stopping. Did you know that it is illegal for anyone under the age of 15 to ride a bicycle without a helmet in Virginia? For a review of some safety tips for you and your children, please view the video titled Bike Safety Video. A link to it can also be found under the Franconia Information Flyers section of our website. Information about bike crashes in Fairfax County in 2011 can be found by clicking here. If you would like to contact our Traffic Enforcement Officer, MPO Thompson, directly to report an area experiencing repeated violations, you may email him directly at FranconiaStationCPO@fairfaxcounty.gov.
