Volunteers Awarded for Efforts

On Friday, April 13 2012, volunteers who serve the Fairfax County Police Department were recognized in an awards ceremony at the Fairfax County Government Center.  The keynote speaker was Virginia Attorney General Ken Cucinelli.  Commanders at the Franconia Station are proud to announce that seven Auxiliary Police Officers (APOs) assigned to this district were recognized!  Assistant Commander Lieutenant William “Jake” Jacoby stated, “It was great to see all the men and women being honored for their hard work, dedication and sacrifice in serving the citizens of Fairfax County”.

There are four categories of APO of the Year.  Franconia Auxiliaries claimed three of the four awards.  Lead APO, Athena Caul was presented with the award for Auxiliary Police Officer of the Year.  Thomas Oliver was awarded Auxiliary Police Officer of the Year in the Crime Prevention category, and also was recognized for completion of 7,500 service hours.   Anthony Butera received Auxiliary Police Officer of the Year in the Training category for his hours of teaching officers about prescription drug abuse and laws.  His invaluable knowledge of the topic is due to his profession as a physician.

APO Curtis Velasquez was awarded a Commendation.  APO Velasquez is an active duty United States Air Force Lieutenant Colonel and pilot and has provided many hours of service assisting officers in active shooter training.

Completion of milestones in service hours were also awarded to APO Richard Majauskas with 2,500, and APO Gary Gaal and APO Robert Reece both with 5,000.
