Fairfax County Police Department Students Get DWI Demonstration
Today students from Edison High School got to witness a Driving While Intoxicated demonstration put on by Franconia District police officers. During the demonstration, officers simulated a minor accident caused by an intoxicated subject played by PFC Tim Wallace. The investigating officer, PFC Scott Shafer, requested Wallace complete a battery of field sobriety tests. During the tests, it was clear that the driver was intoxicated and was subsequently arrested.
Students cheered when Wallace was seated in the back of Shafer’s police car. When asked about the impact of the demonstration, Edison senior Darius Jones stated, “He couldn’t even walk straight! You can’t drink and drive. I think this will teach kids a lot.” Jones added that he is not a drinker and that his beliefs on the topic are influenced directly from his mother.
“This is really good with Prom coming up”, stated Sophomore Joanna Escobar. She added, “I have heard that some people think they can drive better when they’re drunk, and they can’t. They would go to jail if they had to do those tests.”
Special thanks to Principal Greg Croghan and his staff at the school for bringing the students out to watch the demonstration. We wish everyone a safe and happy summer and congratulate all the area graduates! ### To request this information in an alternate format, call the Franconia District Station at 703.922.0889.
