Franconia Station CarFit event at Greenspring

On August 8, 2013  Officers from the Franconia District Station conducted a “CarFit” pilot program at the Greenspring Retirement Community  in Springfield. CarFit is an educational program that offers older adults the opportunity to check how well their personal vehicles "fit" them and provides suggestions for proper alignment of vehicle equipment to improve safety.  The program started with a short overview session and discussion in the classroom. Participants  then moved to the parking lot where CarFit technicians assisted them in setting up their personal vehicles for better safety. This included such things as adjustments of mirrors, seats, and steering wheels to fit the driver. Once their vehicles were set up properly, they got a chance to test the new settings. Police Driver Training Instructors set up a short cone course to practice backing skills, as errors in backing a vehicle is a large contributor to accidents.

The Franconia District plans to expand the program in the near future.
