Remembering Our Colleague and Friend
Master Police Officer Sally McGowan
We mourn the tragic and untimely loss of Master Police Officer Sally McGowan to cancer. We extend our deepest sympathies, thoughts, and prayers to Sally’s family, friends and colleagues.
Sally began her career with the Fairfax County Police Department in 1997. After graduating the police academy, she was assigned to patrol in the Franconia Police District. While at Franconia she held positions in the Criminal Investigations Section, School Resource Officer (SRO) at Hayfield Secondary School for seven years, dayshift patrol officer, midnight patrol officer, member of the supplemental Civil Disturbance Unit (CDU), and the station’s gang coordinator. Throughout her career she did multiple temporary assignments with our narcotics unit and the Narcotic Task Force. In 2009, Sally aspired to expand her career path and became a supplemental Motor Carrier Officer. In 2010 Sally decided to return to patrol and transferred to the West Springfield District Station. She returned to her home station in Franconia in 2011, and had been recently selected to transfer to the Operations Support Bureau, where she ended her tour of duty.
Rest in Peace, Sally.
