Don’t Get Caught in the Hotseat this July Fourth
Summer’s finally here and this weekend is one of the most celebrated annual holidays. It’s also one of the top four high-risk drinking and driving holidays. The Sully Police District saw a 16% increase in alcohol-related crashes from 2011 to 2012, with 98 alcohol-related crashes in 2012. Last year, the Fairfax County Police made 2,628 DWI arrests countywide.
From June 28 through July 7, officers from the Sully District Station will be patrolling for suspected impaired drivers in an effort to keep Sully’s roadways safer. Officers will also place special focus on the statewide move-over law (VA State Code 46.2-921.1), requiring drivers to change lanes, when possible, or reduce speed when approaching any emergency vehicle stopped on the road with its emergency lights activated.
Please don’t drive intoxicated. Make arrangements to have a designated driver, call a cab or stay where you are. The risks associated with drunk and impaired driving can be devastating and costly. Police aim to reduce these incidents through education, enforcement and community participation. This summer, Fairfax County Police and Sully District residents are “All Eyes for DUIs!”
