Fairfax County Police Department

Always lock your doors, even when you are home. Lock your
car doors, your garage doors and your basement doors

Use the deadbolt lock installed on your door if you have one

If your home is equipped with an alarm system, use it

Turn on your exterior lights at night
-
Try not to leave purses, cash, keys or valuables near an entryway

Make sure curtains or blinds are closed, especially on the ground
floor of your home

Always lock your windows, even on the second floor

Ladders of any kind should be kept away from the house
and secured with a lock

Trim bushes and shrubs to keep them away from windows and
walkways

Report any suspicious activity in your neighborhood to the
Fairfax County Police Non-emergency number 703-691-2131
