Providence District Land Use Seminar

Mr. Chairman:

I am pleased to announce that my office will be hosting another series of land use seminars. The first in the series entitled "Land Use Information on the Web," will be held on Tuesday, April 25 at Fairhill Elementary School located at 3001 Chichester Lane, Fairfax from 7:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. The rest of the seminars will be offered on May 8 and 22, 2006.

As you know, in June 2005, Fairfax County ranked the number one county for jurisdictions with populations over 500,000, according to a survey by the Center for Digital Government and the National Association of Counties. Furthermore, in 2005 Fairfax County earned an "A" in Information Technology Management as cited in the Governing Magazine. Many other awards and accomplishments have been bestowed on our county due to the outstanding and forward thinking initiatives taken by the Department of Information Technology (DIT).

These outstanding and forward thinking initiatives have not only kept Fairfax County on the cutting edge of technological advancements and created performance benchmarks but have also enabled county residents to access online information and resources.

At the "Land Use Information on the Web" seminar, Fairfax County Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Division of DIT will be presenting land use resources and information that are available on the web and how those resources can be accessed by residents. GIS staff will also be available to answer questions and solicit feedback on how user access can be enhanced.

I would like to take this opportunity to invite the Board, county staff and residents to this seminar and request that the Office of Public Affairs help publicize this event.
