2006 Providence District Volunteerfest® Event

Mr. Chairman:

The 2006 Providence District VolunteerFest® is held in conjunction with Volunteer Fairfax VolunteerFest® and the National Make a Difference Day to be held on October 28, 2006 which celebrates extraordinary deeds performed by ordinary people on America’s largest day of doing good. The day’s event will begin with a kick off at the Second Annual Merrifield Festival, sponsored by the Greater Merrifield Business Association, to be held on October 21, 2006 and will showcase the spirit of volunteerism throughout Providence District.

Last year, our event generated the collection of 1,100 pieces of new children’s clothing for area shelters; 100 pieces of non-perishable items for area food bank; approximately $2,000 from book sales for the new Oakton Library; educating residents on best preventive health practices; recycling of 12 pieces of computers and parts; and many other such successful deliverables that was shared with Providence residents and community based organizations.

I would like to take this opportunity to invite the board and residents to come and enjoy the festivities of the 2006 Providence District VolunteerFest® events. Further, I request that the Office of Public Affairs publicize this event, including those coordinated by Volunteer Fairfax VolunteerFest® events in Providence District and the County. More information is available on my Web site at www.fairfaxcounty.gov/providence/
project/vol_2006.htm or by calling my office.
