Madam Chairman: The Briarwood Trace development is yet another
example of the future of affordable housing in Fairfax County.
The Briarwood Trace development includes four single family
detached affordable housing units, the only ones in Fairfax
County. Since its conception, the development has taken about
four years to come to fruition. These affordable homes would
not have become a reality without the commitments of the citizens
of Briarwood, the Christopher companies, Habitat for Humanity
and Fairfax County Housing and Community Development.
I
would ask, together with the Chairman, for unanimous consent
that at the July 12, 2004 Board meeting we recognize and celebrate
this important milestone in Fairfax County by inviting representatives
from the Christopher Companies, Habitat for Humanity, the
Briarwood Citizens' Association and the Department of Housing
and Community Development for a brief presentation and to
thank them for their hard work and recognize their commitment
to affordable housing in Fairfax County.
Furthermore,
I would like to take this opportunity to invite the Board
of Supervisors and the citizens of Fairfax County to the official
ground breaking ceremony that will take place on Thursday,
June 24, at 4:00 p.m. at Briarwood Trace.
