BOARD MATTER
September 12, 2005

Dunn Loring Woods Civic Association's 40th Anniversary

Mr. Chairman:

The Dunn Loring Woods Civic Association is celebrating its 40th Anniversary on Saturday, September 24, 2005, at the Stenwood Elementary School.

The celebration will include a pot luck dinner, entertainment and activities for the children. They will also have historical memorabilia and photographs of Dunn Loring Woods events from the 1960's to the present.

Over the years the credo of the Dunn Loring Woods Civic Association has been and will continue to:

1. Take an active interest in and respond to issues in Fairfax County, especially those that affect the Dunn Loring Woods community.

2. Work continuously for the beautification of the community and public recognition of national holidays dedicated to our country through patriotic displays within the community.

3. Work to maintain effective community services such as police protection, trash collection, snow removal, pest control, and traffic safety.

4. Publish and distribute a monthly newsletter and disseminate information of public interest.

5. Maintain and distribute an updated directory of names and addresses of the residents of Dunn Loring Woods.

6. Enhance community spirit and communication by holding regularly scheduled community meetings for Dunn Loring Woods residents and sharing information and ideas through the Association's website.

7. Maintain an active neighborhood watch program for the safety of Dunn Loring Woods residents.

8. Recognize individual residents for their contribution to the Association, the community and the public good.

The consistent active participation by the Dunn Loring Woods Civic Association over the past 40 years reflect highly on the community and encourage the type of active participation by communities that we would welcome throughout the County.

Therefore, I ask the Board for unanimous support in proclaiming Saturday, September 24, 2005 as "Dunn Loring Woods Day" in Fairfax County and direct staff to prepare the attached proclamation that will be read at the celebration.
