Board of Supervisors' Information Technology Committee

Supervisor Linda Q. Smyth, Chair
Supervisor Cathy Hudgins, Vice Chair

Friday 2/17/06 2:30 PM

The Information Technology Committee (Supervisor Smyth, Chair) will meet on Friday, February 17, 2006, at 2:30 p.m., in room 232 of the Government Center.

Meeting Agenda

  • Institutional Network (I-Net) - Update

At the Board meeting on December 5, 2005, Chairman Connolly requested that staff provide additional background information about the County's fiber-optic Institutional Network (I-Net). The I-Net is a project that was enabled by the Cable Franchise Agreement with the provision of a dark fiber communications infrastructure for the County Government and Schools use for transmission of voice, data, and video services across governmental and schools buildings.

The implemented I-Net will significantly improve both County Government and Schools in wide area network services by realizing significant increase in site connectivity speeds and increased technology capabilities. Once completed, both County Government and FCPS will gain the flexibility to explore and implement various technologies for voice, video and data services realizing greater operational efficiencies.

  • County's Telecommunications Systems Project

This item will provide a briefing on a project that provides an enterprise architecture and modern platform that replaces the county's aged telecommunications system.
